How is This Event Remembered?
In Britain, they remember their resistance to Hitler in 1940 by celebrating a time called "Finest Hour".
Young people continued to be reminded of this time by public ceremonies, movies, and TV programs. There are also pictures of camps held in the Minnesota Historical Society. In Washington D.C. there is a World War II memorial that opened in 2004, 59 years after the end of the war. There have been cemeteries for fallen soldiers. One man named George S. Patton who was a US General wrote, "It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived."
