There was someone named Florence Drury who was a bookkeeper on the Peterson farm in 1944, who had a different opinion on the prisoners. She said they were "Nazi-types, who strutted and goosestepped." There was also an article from the Forum dated June 6, 1944 and was titled " Curb Travel to Prisoner Camp." It stated that "because of the pressence of a prisoner of war camp at Moorhead's eastern outskirts, it has been attracting hundreds of sightseers and causing a traffic jam". Citizens of Moorhead were also upset that the POWs received meat 3 times a week when it was rationed to civilians. One if the POWs even stated that "It was a good school for me. Not only were the Americans good workers, but good fellows."
